The Road to Torrey Pines

The Randy Jones Invitational presented by Sycuan will be the first championship golf tournament of its kind in San Diego. Teams that qualify for the invitational will compete at the prestigious Torrey Pines Golf Course (Home of the PGA Farmers Insurance Championship and site of the 2008 US Open) for the ultimate golf prize – an all-expense paid golf trip for eight to Pebble Beach. In addition, the winning team will have $10,000 donated in their honor to the local San Diego charity golf tournament they qualified from. There will of course be prizes for the second and third place teams and all teams will be competing for the prestige of winning a true amateur championship golf tournament, based solely on team scores and not indexed for handicaps.

Teams will qualify for the Invitational by coming in first, second or third place in one of the hundreds of charity golf tournaments held at golf courses throughout the year in San Diego County. Only those tournaments that benefit charities with a 501 (c) 3 designation with a minimum of 60 golfers will be eligible to qualify for the Invitational. This structure will provide a tremendous marketing boost for all local charities that hold golf tournaments. Each charity will be able to offer tournament invites to its golfers with no cost at all to the charity and, of course, the charity that sends the winning team to the Invitational will receive a $10,000 donation. In addition, our website will have a full list of the qualifying charity tournaments, along with resources for products, services, and valuable tips to help the qualifying charity tournaments become more successful and raise more money and awareness for their cause.

With over 40 high quality golf courses in San Diego County conducting over 900 Charity tournaments every year, the pool of potential teams to play in the Invitational is approximately 2,700 (the first, second and third place finishers in each of those tournaments) but the exposure generated by the tournament will reach tens of thousands of local golfers.

If the field for the Championship exceeds the number of spots available, we will hold qualifying tournaments to reduce the field to 36 teams. These one day qualifiers will be held in January leading up to the 2 day Championship on February 8th and 9th 2014 at Torrey Pines Golf Course, just two weeks after the PGA Farmers Open.
